Am I a legit celebrant…?

Well, you have probably heard or seen the story recently where a Melbourne man impersonated being a marriage celebrant. He conducted wedding ceremonies for five couples during 2022 and 2023. For all intents and purposes, those couples thought they were legitimately married, but their marriages are now deemed invalid! The fallout along with any legal consequences must be so stressful. It just shouldn’t happen.

Always do your homework whether it’s dealing with a licensed trade, or any profession that requires to be registered. That includes us celebrants who have to go through a rigorous application process to the Attorney General. This includes studying and completing the required qualification, pass all the federal police checks and references, complete the compulsory personal development yearly, and pay the annual registration to stay active and current.

Do yourself a HUGE favour and only work with a celebrant who is currently registered. To see the list of all Australian celebrants who are registered including ME, click here: List of Commonwealth Registered Celebrants
